Angela Mason: Executive Director
Orange, TX – Angela Mason has been announced as Executive Director of Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center (SLG), a 252-acre horticultural center and wildlife preserve along the waterways of the Adams Bayou.
Most recently, as Associate Vice President of Community Engagement and Senior Director of Windy City Harvest at the Chicago Botanic Garden, she has championed the Garden’s commitment to food, health and jobs, and built its Windy City Harvest program from a small community garden program to an internationally recognized center for excellence in urban agriculture. Mason has managed Windy City Harvest from its inception through the development of a certificate program with the City Colleges of Chicago, a transitional jobs program, and an incubator farm program. She was appointed to the Illinois Workforce Innovation Board and serves on the Urban Agriculture and Innovation Advisory Committee for the USDA.
Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center is a 252-acre horticultural center and wildlife preserve in Orange, Texas that combines botanical gardens and an education-based nature center in a unique way. The Gardens are operated by the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation, a private operating foundation established in 1961 that aims to encourage and assist education and to improve and enrich the quality of life in Southeast Texas by providing significant resources for the study and enjoyment of art, history, nature, and culture.
