Bangor, ME – The Forest Society of Maine, America’s 7th-largest non-governmental conservation organization based on acres conserved, has appointed Christopher Beichner as its next President/CEO. Beichner brings 24 years of experience as a nonprofit executive and regional planner to this role.

He comes to the Forest Society of Maine after having served for 12 years as the President and CEO of Allegheny Land Trust, which is a nationally accredited land trust serving the Pittsburgh, PA region. In addition to strong leadership and fundraising experience, he brings with him an appreciation of the importance of land conservation- its economic benefits as well as its benefits to health and wellness.

Previously, he was Executive Director of the Mount Washington Community Development Corporation in Pittsburgh and has also served as Director of Community Development and Planning with the Northwest Commission in PA.

A life-long resident of western Pennsylvania, he grew up helping his father run a sawmill, which instilled in him an appreciation for the many benefits flowing from forests.

The Forest Society of Maine, established in 1984, has helped landowners, families and communities to conserve more than a million acres of forestland across the state for sustainable forest products, recreation, habitat for fish and wildlife, and historic and cultural values.
