She brings a wealth of experience at a critical point in the Legal Council’s efforts to use the power of law to ensure access to critical services and opportunities for clients facing barriers due to illness, disability or status.
Most recently, Justicz served as the Chief External Relations and Strategy Officer at Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights. She rejoins the Legal Council for Health Justice after serving from 1995-1997 as Executive Director of the AIDS Legal Council of Chicago.
Originally founded in 1987 as the AIDS Legal Council of Chicago to respond to the urgent needs of persons impacted by HIV and AIDS, the agency broadened its focus in 2014 to address discrimination and disparities in health, wealth and well-being across the lifespan of underserved populations. Now known as the Legal Council for Health Justice, its legal team has been at the forefront of shaping, expanding and defending against discrimination in every major healthcare program in Illinois, in Chicago Public Schools, and in access to jobs, providing thousands of Chicago’s adults and children with access to health coverage, economic security and upward mobility.
Legal Council for Health Justice provides individual legal representation, outreach and education, and advocacy. It serves many communities, including individuals living with HIV/AIDS, children and families with disabilities and chronic illness, older adults, and individuals who are homeless.
